What is Speak Up?
Speak Up is a community engagement effort designed to bring the community together in a meaningful way, to be part of the decisions and processes that impact public schools, and to work for change and improvement.
Speak Up is designed to bring individuals and organizations together to achieve the following goals:
  • To increase student achievement
  • To expand local support for public schools
  • To develop a unified education voice
  • To share a common community vision for education
The process invites citizens to talk about education, develop a shared vision, identify shared expectations and responsibilities, and provide resources necessary for success. This work will take place over a 12-18 month period through a series of 150 small group conversations that seek input and opinions about education from individuals in the community.

Why is this work important?
Education is the means to a competent, reliable, and productive workforce, and a healthy economic community. Great schools happen when a community is unified in support of high education standards. The health of our local economy and quality of life in our community is directly dependent on the quality of our public schools. Our students must graduate prepared to compete in today’s global economy and to meet local workforce needs.
